The repetition of the arpeggio throughout the mix detracts from the song imo. Something to switch things up on just that front would help a lot. That said I do not think it is bad at all. Not the biggest fan of the dry saw at the end tho, I assume that ties it into the next track?

CrowdDoll responds:

thanks, the reason i created this so I can get a Official Music badge on YT but thanks for the critique nonetheless

Nice, that bass is good lol, shook my headphones.

CrowdDoll responds:

damn thanks
check out the remix i just uploaded, let me know what you think.

Awesome! I will say though the beginning is mixed a bit too dark imo. But it's a fantastic piece overall!

Ackee39 responds:

Wow, thanks!! :D

Really awesome debut song! Disappointing this got slept on...
I haven't heard the original song tho

CrowdDoll responds:

this thing sucks ass especially mixing. I still dont know that stereo exist yet. Check out my later releases.

It's nice, melody is catchy, and it has a good energy. The thing really letting you down is the melody never changes. Keep what you have here as the chorus and work its motifs into the opening buildup and the breakdown.

Dracoflame responds:

This track definitely doesn't deserve the attention it got, imo! 😂
It's really catchy, I've heard that much. But now that I look back at it, the mix is really poor, the same synths and saws play the entire time, and the track itself is way too repetitive.
I'm really getting better, though! I'll have something new out on Monday. Can't wait for you to hear it! 💗

Love the story, excellent progression, and I think we all can agree that the theremin is such a great and underutilized instrument, awesome use of it here!

Irish-Soul responds:

Thanks, and I agree! The theremin and the celesta are my favorite instruments to compose music with

Really nice, takes a while to evolve though. Almost reminds me of strobe but that one had more going on to pull you to it's climax, unfortunately this song doesn't have a fantastic climax but it's still a great show of mixing and great sound design.

Sequenced responds:

The progression of the build is pretty standard. I could make it even longer of a build if you want haha.

Starts off chill. Arps follow an interesting progression but it's not entirely unpleasant. The vox sounding synth and bass that come in next are however discordant but not overly so. It's such that I can't tell if you intended for it to have that sort of vibe or not.

1:58 I like the bassline, but again that discord is still present and takes away from the enjoyment for me.
2:30 the lead that comes in is subtle but nice, I like the vibrato you have on that.

Overall I think you could improve on your note choices, make sure everything is within the same scale as each other. Personally I'd like to see some more variation and more catchy stuff but that's a preference. Really nice chill track, but if you want it to be danceable I'd really work on getting a more pronounced beat and taking it away from the chill dimension.

Solid work with a lot of potential.

Mic-Noodles responds:

Thank you so much for the review!

I agree, it's definitely riding on quite a bit dissonance. That is intentional as far as my very limited theory goes! To me, I like the sort of mysterious vibe I feel it adds. However, I can see how that can be distracting and even reductive. Qualities which I may have strayed into here. I really appreciate the advice, whenever I get around to revisiting this track I'll certainly revise the note choices in it. I'd like to see how I can mix things up too, variation is something I wrestle with quite a bit in my head.

Cheers bud!

Really liking the intro, bassline is excellent.

I was talking with someone about the origins of dubstep a few days ago and what you have here is actually really similar to the OG stuff.

Around 1:00-1:20 the bass starts to crackle a little bit but it almost sounds intentional but tbh at this point in the song I would prefer if it wasn't so compressed, it just sounds a little messy to me.

I can see why Ditchy didn't make such a long critique at first (holy crap the update though) and that's cause you really have something great here, produced pretty well.

On a whole I think you could do with playing around with some stereoization and soundspace tweaking. It's alright but I think you could take it to a new level with some of the instruments/generators.

Everything else I could say is stylistic, a few of the instruments I really like, but some I'm not so much into. It's definitely spacey sounding and you are going to the roots of dubstep with an anger against popular media and I think you really nailed it!

Teckmo-X responds:

This is a review and much clearer. I appreciate your time to write one for me and will write one for you as a token of my gratitude. Now I can also understand Ditchy's review and perspective on my piece too! :)
